This must be one of David Nobbs’ most bizarre inventions.
There’s our wife, Pauline Yates – acting as a boxing referee, I think.
And I see that Geoffrey Palmer is in this boxing scene. (I was his patient in Butterflies.)
I suspect there is a philosophical “ism” attached to the self-boxing sequence associated with a famous thinker with a European handle, who inspired the writer – but I never heard who it might be. Too busy being grateful for the job and the fee.
Rising Damp (BBC 1) was written by Eric Chappell, adapted from his stage play The Banana Box. The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin (Yorkshire TV) was adapted from books written by David Nobbs. All happening between 1974 and 1979.
